Insider guide
Shopping American Dream.
The story
American Dream is a very large retail and entertainment complex at 1 American Dream Way in East Rutherford, New Jersey, next to MetLife Stadium in the Meadowlands. It mixes stores with indoor attractions, so it suits families making a day of it.
The shopping splits in two. The Avenue is the luxury wing, home to Hermès and Tiffany & Co. The main retail levels hold the big fashion chains (Zara, Primark, UNIQLO and H&M) and a run of toy and gift shops.
What to Expect
In The Avenue, Hermès sells handbags, luggage and clothing (the mall lists its phone as 201-487-1111), and Tiffany & Co. has diamond rings, necklaces, earrings, bracelets and watches. Apple Store North Jersey has a Genius Bar.
For clothes, Zara, Primark, UNIQLO and H&M cover the basics, Altar'd State sells women's apparel, and Legacy carries Nike, Jordan, Adidas and Off-White. Lovisa sells low-priced fashion jewelry, and Kalifano sells crystals and gemstones. Kids and collectors can work through Pop Mart (figurines and plush, including Disney and Star Wars lines), Ebisu Life Store (plushies, anime figurines and Japanese snacks), P!Q (designer toys and novelties) and Build-A-Bear Workshop.
Best Time to Visit
Store and center hours could not be confirmed, so check before you go. The firm rule is to avoid Jets or Giants game days if you're driving: MetLife event parking can reach $75, against the usual $5.
If You Only Have an Hour
Head to The Avenue for Hermès and Tiffany & Co., then the main levels for Zara and UNIQLO. With kids along, swap the last stop for Pop Mart and Build-A-Bear Workshop.
