Insider guide

Shopping Nolita.

The story

Nolita sits just east of SoHo. Its shopping runs along Mott, Mulberry and Elizabeth Streets between Houston and Kenmare Streets, plus Prince Street. The streets are narrow and best walked.

Each street has its own lean. Mulberry is for menswear, with Aimé Leon Dore and Noah. Elizabeth Street has the most shops on our list: jewelry from Love Adorned and Hart, the French label Sézane, and a row of beauty shops in Aesop, Le Labo and MALIN+GOETZ. Mott has Coclico's women's shoes. It suits shoppers who like small brand shops, fragrance and good menswear, with dinner close by.

What to Expect

On Mulberry, Aimé Leon Dore is the New York menswear label's flagship, with a shop floor, a sound room, a Greek-inspired cafe and a private lounge with a bar. Noah, from former Supreme creative director Brendon Babenzien, sells understated high-end streetwear, from T-shirts under $50 to outerwear near $2,000.

Elizabeth Street keeps the beauty shops within a few doors. Aesop has a stone basin for testing skin and hair care and a private Fragrance Armoire. Le Labo blends perfumes, candles and lotions to order and bottles them with a personalized label. MALIN+GOETZ sells face, body and hair products in an all-black room. Farther up, Hart makes custom charm necklaces, L'Appartement Sézane is the label's apartment-style shop, and Love Adorned mixes fine and vintage jewelry from independent designers with homewares, apothecary goods and books. Over on Mott, Coclico sells its handcrafted leather shoes, and staff fit you in person.

Best Time to Visit

Shops open at 11am or noon and close between 6pm and 7pm, with Sunday hours of about noon to 6pm. Love Adorned opens at noon every day, and Aesop runs 11am to 7pm daily. Sézane closes at 6:30pm Monday to Saturday, and Coclico stays open to 6:30pm Thursday to Saturday but closes at 6pm the rest of the week. Hart and Le Labo don't post hours, so check before you go.

If You Only Have an Hour

Start at Aimé Leon Dore for the sound room and cafe. Cut over to Elizabeth Street for Aesop (226), Le Labo (233) and MALIN+GOETZ (235), all a few doors apart. Finish at Love Adorned, or detour to Coclico if you need shoes.

Where to Eat

Torrisi, inside the Puck Building, serves Italian-American cooking with polished service, such as tuna with pickled caponata. Estela is a relaxed room for shareable plates like ricotta dumplings with mushrooms and squid-ink arroz negro. C as in Charlie mixes Southern and Korean flavors in sharing plates. A short walk east, 8282 is a loud room with Korean-inflected plates, and Una Pizza Napoletana makes Neapolitan pies with puffy edges; walk-ins should come early.
