Retail, Raffles and Consignment
New York has three ways to buy sneakers, and knowing which one you need saves a lot of walking. Brand flagships and sneaker boutiques sell new pairs at retail, but the limited releases there are usually allocated by raffle or reservation rather than sold to whoever shows up. Consignment shops sell pairs that are already sold out, at market prices, and check each one before it goes on the shelf. Factory stores sell past-season general releases at a discount. Most serious shoppers use all three.
How Releases and Raffles Work
Each store runs its own system, so set up the apps before release day. Kith runs drawings in the Kith App: you sign in, open the Drawings tab and pick a style and size. You get one entry, winners are drawn from the entries and notified in the app, and the winner buys through the app. Kith also accepts a mail-in postcard entry, and you must be 16 or older.
Nike uses SNKRS Pass in the SNKRS App. Members request a pair for pickup at a participating store and must be within a set distance of it. Winners get a QR code and pay only at pickup, with a photo ID that matches the account, and a missed pickup window means the pass expires. Foot Locker's app reservations need an FLX Rewards membership. If you reserve for store pickup, you buy in person within the set time with matching photo ID. Some Foot Locker stores also run in-store sweepstakes, which also need FLX membership and are entered with your name, size, phone number and photo ID.
At Extra Butter, some drops are marked as in-store releases at the Lower East Side shop and others go online, with raffles run through a raffle checkout on its website.
Consignment: Buying Sold-Out Pairs
Flight Club (812 Broadway) calls itself the original consignment store for rare shoes. It was founded in New York and is now owned by GOAT Group. Independent sellers consign their pairs, and Flight Club's specialists authenticate every shoe and check that it matches its listing. Prices reflect resale demand, so sold-out pairs usually cost more than they did at retail. The store is open daily 11am to 7pm. To sell, start a submission online at sell.flightclub.com and choose drop-off; in-store consignment intake runs 11am to 5pm. Check the current seller commission on Flight Club's site before you consign, since fees change.
Two stores you may still see listed are gone. Stadium Goods closed its SoHo shop at 47 Howard Street in January 2025, and atmos's Harlem store on 125th Street closed after Foot Locker announced in October 2023 that it was shutting atmos's US stores.
Manhattan, Store by Store
Downtown, plus Dover Street Market
Two stores sit close together on Lafayette Street in NoHo. Kith Manhattan (337 Lafayette St) first opened in 2017 and reopened in May 2025 in a three-story 1922 building, with Kith's men's line, designer apparel and footwear, and a Kith Treats window. Check in with the Kith App when you visit to earn loyalty points. It is open Monday to Saturday 10am to 9pm and Sunday 11am to 8pm. Up the street, On Store NYC Lafayette (363A Lafayette St) sells the Swiss brand's running shoes and apparel and hosts group runs and a run crew.
From there it is a short walk to Flight Club at 812 Broadway, between 11th and 12th Streets, and on to New Balance Flatiron Flagship (150 Fifth Ave). It carries the full range, has a 3D foot scanner and accepts trade-ins for vouchers worth up to 25% of the original price. It sits in our Flatiron and Union Square district, open Monday to Saturday 10am to 8pm and Sunday 11am to 7pm.
On the west side, Concepts NYC (225 Hudson St), the New York branch of the Cambridge, Massachusetts, boutique, sits just north of Canal Street. Its displays are built around Concepts' own collaborations and change often. Its posted hours are Monday to Friday 11am to 7pm and Sunday noon to 6pm, so call before a Saturday visit.
On the Lower East Side, Extra Butter (125 Orchard St) sells limited releases and streetwear and holds in-store release events. It is open Monday to Saturday 11am to 7pm and Sunday noon to 6pm, and a second store at 22-03 Jackson Ave in Long Island City keeps the same hours. The Orchard Street shop pairs well with our Lower East Side vintage walk. On Lexington Avenue, Dover Street Market New York (160 Lexington Ave) is the luxury option: its Sneaker Space range includes Nike, adidas, New Balance, ASICS, Salomon, On, Vans and Comme des Garçons collaborations.
Midtown and Uptown
The Nike NYC House of Innovation (650 Fifth Ave) is six floors and 68,000 square feet, with a Sneaker Lab, Nike By You customization and online-order pickup. Nike Members get receiptless returns and a 60-day trial, and new members get 15% off a first in-store purchase. Six blocks south, the adidas Flagship Store New York (565 Fifth Ave) is the brand's New York flagship; NYC Tourism describes four floors with shoe customization, a gait-analysis running shoe finder and an indoor track. If your size is not on the floor, staff can order it through Endless Aisle, and online orders can be picked up in store. Both are open daily 10am to 8pm and fit into our Fifth Avenue shopping walk.
At Herald Square, Foot Locker (112 W 34th St) is open until 10pm Monday to Saturday, and a second Foot Locker is at 11 W 34th St. On the Upper West Side, Salomon (270 Columbus Ave) opened in May 2026 between 72nd and 73rd Streets, with trail and running shoes. In Harlem, Nike Factory Store Harlem (5 W 125th St), formerly Nike Unite, sells discounted Nike styles.
Brooklyn and the Outlets
Brooklyn and Beyond
In Williamsburg, Kith Williamsburg (25 Kent Ave, Suite 102, Brooklyn) opened in March 2023 below Kith's headquarters, with men's, women's and kids' collections and a Kith Treats ice cream bar. It is a few blocks north of the shops in our Williamsburg shopping day. In Dumbo, Kith Kids (Empire Stores, 53-83 Water St, Brooklyn) carries children's collections, collaboration pieces and footwear, with a Kith Treats ice cream counter inside, a handy stop with kids.
For discounted Nike styles, the NIKE Factory Store at Woodbury Common (498 Red Apple Ct, Suite 600, Central Valley) sells Nike sneakers at outlet prices, and adidas, New Balance, On and HOKA have stores at the center too. See our Woodbury Common page for buses and hours.
Tip: If you are visiting for a specific release, enter the raffles as soon as they open, and bring the photo ID that matches your account. Pickup pairs are held only for the set window.
