Insider guide
Shopping Roosevelt Field.
The story
Roosevelt Field is a Simon-owned enclosed mall at 630 Old Country Rd, by the Meadowbrook Parkway in Garden City on Long Island. It has five department store anchors (Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Bloomingdale's, Macy's and JCPenney) and more than 250 specialty stores, all indoors with free parking.
At the high end, Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana and BOSS have stores here, along with a run of watch boutiques: Rolex, Omega, Breitling, TAG Heuer and Bucherer 1888. Apple, Sephora, Tory Burch, Primark, MUJI and UNIQLO fill out the rest. It suits shoppers who want department stores, designer labels and watches in one indoor stop.
What to Expect
Start with the anchors. Neiman Marcus has a Neiman Marcus Cafe for a sit-down lunch, Nordstrom has the Nordstrom Grill and an eBar coffee counter, and Macy's has a LensCrafters and a Toys R Us shop inside. Watch shoppers can compare the Rolex Boutique, Omega's Seamaster and Speedmaster models, Breitling, TAG Heuer and Bucherer 1888, which sells several brands under one roof. Burberry's full-price boutique carries trench coats, check scarves and outerwear.
For fashion, Tory Burch sells flats, handbags and ready-to-wear, Golden Goose has its distressed leather sneakers, and AMIRI and Rudsak cover designer streetwear. Beauty runs from Sephora to single-brand shops for Jo Malone London, Aesop, MAC and Lush. MUJI has stationery, storage and linens, Williams-Sonoma sells cookware and pantry items, and Lovesac and Modani cover furniture. With kids, head for the LEGO Store, Build-A-Bear Workshop and Pop Mart.
Best Time to Visit
The mall is open Monday to Thursday 10am to 8pm, Friday and Saturday 10am to 9pm and Sunday 11am to 7pm; department stores may keep different hours. Friday and Saturday give you the longest evening. The building opens early for walkers, 7 to 10am Monday to Saturday and 7 to 11am Sunday, before the stores open.
If You Only Have an Hour
Go straight to the watches: the Rolex Boutique, Omega and Bucherer 1888 for a quick comparison. Then pick Louis Vuitton or Burberry, and finish with a coffee at Nordstrom's eBar.
