Insider guide

Shopping Woodbury.

The story

Woodbury Common Premium Outlets is an open-air Simon outlet center at 498 Red Apple Ct in Central Valley, about an hour north of Manhattan. More than 245 stores are split across four themed districts (Hudson Valley, Adirondacks, Saratoga and Hamptons) plus Market Hall, which holds Guest Services, a currency exchange booth and most of the quick food.

The draw is discounted luxury. The center counts more than 80 luxury outlets, including Gucci, Prada, Dior, Saint Laurent and Loro Piana. Alongside them are big factory stores such as Polo Ralph Lauren and NIKE and two department-store outlets, Bloomingdale's – The Outlet Store and Saks OFF 5TH. It suits a planned day trip with a list of labels in mind.

What to Expect

Stores go by suite number, so note yours before you go. Many luxury houses are in the 800s: Dior (808, with Dior Men in 803), Frette (807), Prada (812), Brunello Cucinelli (815, with a men's store in 825), Celine (821), Loro Piana (831) and Saks OFF 5TH (850). Bottega Veneta (940) and Balenciaga (968) are in the 900s, Loewe (669) and Saint Laurent (681) in the 600s, and Gucci is in Suite 302. Moncler (262) sells puffers, vests and knitwear, and Burberry (268) has trench coats and check scarves.

For everyday outlet shopping, the Polo Ralph Lauren Factory Store (283) is large and has a Ralph's Coffee counter inside, with a separate children's store in 412. NIKE Factory Store (600) sells sneakers and athletic apparel, and Adidas, New Balance, On and HOKA have stores too. Arc'teryx Factory Outlet (208) has shell jackets and insulated layers. For the kitchen, Le Creuset (869) stocks enameled cast iron and stoneware, with Zwilling J.A. Henckels knives in 678, and Sferra linens is in 949A. Ladurée sells boxed macarons from kiosk K112, and Lindt (441B) and Laderach (920) sell chocolate.

Best Time to Visit

The center and its stores are listed as open daily 10am to 9pm, so any day works, and the Coach USA/Shortline buses from Port Authority run all day, every day. Lockers are for rent, which makes a long day easier: drop bags between stores instead of carrying them.

If You Only Have an Hour

Pick a few suites and stick to them. For luxury, Dior (808), Prada (812), Celine (821) and Loro Piana (831) all sit in the 800s, and Saks OFF 5TH (850) adds a multi-brand sweep. Grab a box of macarons at Ladurée (K112) on the way out.
